Not coincidental at all is how legible the watch is. A lot of the time brands make silly homage watches like this that fail to be useful as daily wears - not here. Oris stays true to its ideals as a watchmaker, so the 43.5mm wide steel case has a very legible design, properly sized nickle needle hands with SuperLumiNova luminant, and a very easy to read chronograph.
It is possible to get good watch deals these day. But they don't always come to you. I would have never heard of Bianci watches had they not contacted me, and chances are most of you would have never heard of them without me sharing them with you. Actually, it allows me to mention something about the watch world - no one has ever totally indexed it. That means there is no definitive list of every watch brand. That would require each brand that pops up to (A) know of the list, and (B) take the time to be included on the list. So as it stands (and as it will stand for the conceivable future), discovering good watches can be a spontaneous adventure.

Getting a chance to check out and review this watch for a while was really a dream come true. I recall when I wrote about it a while ago here when it was first announced. I knew then that I really wanted to wear one. The full limited edition of the Louis Moinet Jules Verne Instrument watches is finally out, and Louis Moinet even has created the artistic steampunk Vernoscope set that comes with four special pieces. My opinion is that Jules Verne style watches are going to be a big part of Louis Moinet's future, and it all starts here.
From an aesthetic standpoint, the book is lovely, and like I said, all the images are welcome and useful. It helps bring the beauty, purpose, and history of IWC watches appreciatively to life. The reason I discussed the organization and content of the book first, is to help separate from coffee tables books that are meant to be viewed only. But between sessions of checking it out, the book will not only look nice sitting around the house, but prove interesting to most people who flip through it. As an added bonus, the size and weight of the book provide that if needed, it can be used as a weapon in self defense (if you can manage to swing it about). A solid strike to the solar plexus should find most opponents stunned and on the ground. Of course I (and most certainly IWC), recommend the book for reading purposes only.
In platinum, the watch case and dial of this Greubel Forsey Tourbillon 24 Secondes (yes, spelled like that) watch feel as though they were milled from a solid piece of the precious metal. There is so much platinum in this watch - it boggles the mind. Actually, the the dial, markers, and hands are in gold - but they are toned to look like platinum. I believe that 2010 model of the Tourbillon 24 Secondes is only available in platinum. I am sure there will be gold models soon, but gold is... so pedestrian, right? Unlike the watch that is featured in the video, the platinum model for 2010 has a redesigned dial - which is better in my opinion - as well as some other changes.

The little "SMT" indicator on the dial is for turning on and off day light saving time by the way. The other area is part of the manual sync functions for the atomic clock synchronization. Otherwise the dials are pretty clean, and with the large hand and applied hour numerals (both coated with luminant) this is a very legible, sensible looking high-function timepiece!
The Grand Prix categories are: best men's watch, best ladies watch, best design concept watch, best jewelery watch, best complicated watch, best sport watch, and a category called "Best Small Hand" which I believe is for the best watch under a certain price.
So Spyker is very serious about their future, the future of Saab, and their watch collection. Unlike other types of "car watches" these aren't a co-branding exercise. The only logos you'll see on the watch are those of Spyker. Expressions d'Artistes International, and their partners, make the watches, and do a lot of part supplying for serious watch makers all over Europe. Quality is good, and the look and feel of the watches fit the Spyker look and experience well.
These watches really help propel Seiko as a luxury brand with models that are a more natural step up for most Seiko watch owners. Unless you really understand the significant appeal of the Spring Drive movement, moving from the prices you are used to with Seiko watches to the Spring Drive Ananta pieces is hard to do. It is more natural to go from a few hundred dollars to a couple of thousand - rather than a few hundred dollars to several thousand. The value is still really impressive in both the Automatic and Spring Drive models. I visited the manufacture in Japan where the movements in the Automatic Ananta watches are produced. The facility is almost identical in poise and style to those of the high end makers in Europe. Movements in the Automatic collection are hand assembled and meticulously tested. Finding an European watch with this level of quality and features for the same price is not going to be possible. Oh, and I should note that the Seiko automatic movements are produced in a different manufacture than the Spring Dive movement. I found that to be interesting. Both are similar though in terms of the high quality facilities, but just located in different parts of Japan.
The watch has a good thickness to it and I like the finishing on the case. It feels tool-like and purposeful. Few other vintage style watches I am familiar with actually look like they could be pulled out of the past like this model. The case design is utilitarian with mostly brushed surfaces . You have to love the grain on the crown that makes it really easy to wind the manually wound movement. Certainly a plus there.
