This limited edition Roger Dubuis Easy Diver SED Tourbillon watch has less than 300 pieces out there. Retail price for the watch is about 5,000 - but retailers are making deals! I got to check out this cool Roger Dubuis as one of their authorized dealers here in CA, at Lussori in Carmel-By-The-Sea. A good example of a wild luxury watch from an interesting luxury watch brand.
Mido has had a long history of Multifort watches over the years. I don't really get the name, and the people at Mido I spoke with don't really understand it either. Some combination of the world "multi" and "comfort?" Which means what? It provide multiple types of comfort, OK.... Anyhow, the Multifort name has now been applied to yet another watch, and one that is really cool. So cool I wish they would have given it a better name. There are are two versions of the new 2009 Multifort. the three-hand day-date Multifort Gents with an automatic ETA 2836-2 movement, and the Multifort Chrono Valjoux with (you guessed it) an automatic ETA Valjoux 7750 chronograph movement.
The Swarovski Octea Sports Lady features their beautiful crystals encircling a 39mm case! That's pretty big! It's solid - hefty - stainless steel with crystals... You must be a strong woman to wear this. And an adventurous one at that! With a traditional diver's watch as its inspiration, the Swarovski Octea Sports Ladies' Watch is complete with rotating bezel, to keep track of your dive, and a very easy to read date indicator.
Trigalight tritium gas tubes are used on various places on the dial. Including for each hour marker and on the hands themselves. All the gas tubes are in the white color while the 12 o'clock indicator is in orange. Most of you are familiar with tritium gas tubes, but for those of you who are not, they are small tubes filled with lightly radioactive gas (no worries, that won't harm you one little bit) that glow by themselves nicely for about 25 years. This means that you never need to charge them in light, and they glow clearly in the dark. Tritium gas tubes are probably the best type of luminant out there and I highly recommend watches that use them for those who enjoy or need low light and no light watch dial reading. The most popular so far in the collection has been the Aviator Bucker Bestmann. This watch has a retro cream dial and an automatic three-hand ETA 2824-2 movement. The watch dial is no nonsense function, just like the place it was modeled after. I like the large file textured crown and the large size as some of the existing Traser watches have been small by today's tastes. You get a really classic aviator look with a hardy Swiss movement (visible through an exhibition caseback). On both bracelets is looks nice. I have included only a picture of the Aviator Bestmann on the bracelet, but it is the same bracelet for all the watches. Oh, and the automatic Aviator Bestmann model comes in a limited edition of just 200 watches. They may be sold out already! Price is about 0.
Let me tell you about the newest and (coolest) new method that a luxury watch company is using technology to help prevent anyone making replica, counterfeit or fake watches from the brand. I don't always know why companies care so much about this, but it is true that as time goes on, fake watches are getting better. In an ideal world, there will be a simple and fool proof way to tell if a watch is authentic right away, from looking at the watch itself. We are not there yet. While this newest method (as applied to watches) is interesting, it still needs improvement as you need the paper work that comes with the watch to authenticate the timepiece. Doesn't that sort of defeat the purpose as someone who is cunning enough is just going to match a questionable watch with real paper work? Maybe Parmigiani will figure out how to incorporate the system into the watches themselves.
A big trend on modified Rolex watches is to make them black. Why? Not sure. Black is a hot color, and Rolex has no watches that it sells in black. A color such as blue or red is often applied as trim. The dial of the watches get some special treatment, and often the modified watches (at least the really good ones, get specially engraved casebacks as well. Some people want only subtle alterations to the designs they love (which would include the Pro-Hunter watches), and others want something a bit more wild (not a mild!).

Going back to what the watch is meant to celebrate. Breitling says that for its (Breitling's) 125th anniversary, and they are making this watch to celebrate Scott Carpenter's 1962 mission aboard the Aurora 7 capsule where he first tested out a chronograph watch in space. It was basically an orbital flight around the Earth. I believe he was wearing a Breitling at the time. OK, so that is cool, but what about the watch itself?
That pretty much sums up what the watch does and what it is. All the basic features you need like the time, date, stopwatch, etc... with other useful features like world time and a countdown timer. If you have used a Casio watch in the past, there is no learning curve. Newbies will just need to spend 15 minutes with the manual to understand all that the watch has to offer. Like I said, the only real drawback of the watch is the screen that is sometimes hard to read, but there is the light for those instances. The trade off is a very col style and extremely durable watch. Price can't be beat with a retail cost of , and a street price of a bit less.
The Red8 name is also part of Chinese culture. Red being associated with wealth and prosperity, while 8 being a lucky number of sorts with special meaning associated with it. Red8 did something that I've never seen before. That being the use of the large red ABS plastic crown. ABS plastic is very hard and solid feeling. It also looks like tasty red candy. The number "8" is done in relief on the side. Sure I worry a bit about the crown scratching, but that is just part of the character of the watch. Realize that the entire crown is not actually plastic. There is a standard metal crown that has a red plastic cap over it. It is a fun style and certainly goes with the theme. No complaints here.
While other watches try to be the timepiece for every occasion - the Dexter Sinister Hex is a choice watch for the right occasion. A strange and different look for strange and different events. Different doesn't need to mean hard to read - and the Hex collection is nicely legible. The Hex watches look as though they rose from the depths with smooth edges and a dial that looks as though it is contained in a large drop of water secured to your wrist. Dexter Sinister Hex watches retail at 9 but are available to aBlogtoRead.com readers for 0 if you use the promotional code HEXME at WatchWear.com when checking out. If you aren't 100% satisfied with the watch, return it for a full refund.

Avakian has enlisted a number of shops, including key ones in Switzerland to manufacture the watches. It is necessary to contract with a variety of service providers and suppliers to make it all happen. The alternative is making your own watch manufacture - either partially or in whole. A expensive and risky venture to say the least. After having some very successful jewelry lines Avakian likely thought it would be a safe bet to "go watches."
