Beat rate: 28,800 half-beats per hour,
Large balance wheel with a moment of inertia of 1.5 mg cm2 and variable inertia screws,
Balance bridge: fixed to two support points, stud held by two screws,
Protection device for limitation of the hairspring movement,
Escapement made of amagnetic silicium (Calibre 781)

Louis Moinet chose the Valjoux 7750 movement for its durability, reliability, and to be honest , value. While the Louis Moinet Jules Verne Instrument watches aren't cheap, they could have been much more expensive. What I love about the choice of using a work-horse movement with a module, is that you get the best of a few worlds. The functions added by the modules in the movements are well integrated, perform nicely, and feel durable. These are important factors to me. As you can see, this is the Instrument # 2, which means that it has a split second chronograph. Here is how it works. You start the chronograph as normal. At any point, you press the pusher located at 10 o'clock and a little hand underneath the chronograph seconds hand stops. You can then start or stop it whenever you like and be able to measure a separate 60 seconds total, while the standard 12 hour chronograph is still running. It basically gives you the ability to time a shorter measurement without having to stop the main chronograph. It is pretty useful in certain situations. Likewise, with the Instrument # 1, having an adjustable GMT hour hand is useful for having a second timezone, or as an AM/PM indicator. Going back to the movement for a moment, you can see it through the sapphire caseback window on the back of the watch. It uses some blued screws, perlage polish, and a specially engraved rotor for decoration. Overall, with a movement such as this at this price level, I am satisfied.

While it is hard to give proper credit, Linde Werdelin is the first luxury watch brand that I know of that employed the use of comics (ahem, graphic novels) to sell high-end timepieces. They still do that, and certainly are going to carry that idea into the future. UPDATE: I just learned that I had it wrong. Linde Werdelin might have been the first to disseminate marketing comic imagery online (that I know of), but Urwerk had published comic content as far back as 2008 (republished here - thanks Ian).

Operating the watch winder is really simple. Basic operation simple involves a small on/off switch in the front of the unit. While in operation, the switch occasionally blinks green. The number of blinks has to do with the mode it is in (which can be changed via connecting the unit to your computer). I like the little pulsing green light, and the ease of operating the winder. Over the watch winder access area there is a folding transparent door that protects the watch. The door click into place via the hinges, and has a good solid built quality to it.

The myth of Jean-Claude Biver is as much a man, as the man himself. While many people wouldn’t necessarily consider the CEO of a watch brand a celebrity or an icon; to watch lovers and people working in the industry, few people have the level of respect and close to attention that Mr. Biver enjoys. And enjoy it he does. The prize for the man’s calculated efforts is a sense of pride and a pat-on-the-back attitude that comes naturally. Bright-faced and wide-eyed, Jean-Claude Biver (JCB) often has the enthusiasm of a teenager. Nevertheless, Jean-Claude prefers the simple joys in life, and is approachable in a way that can’t be said for most men at the helm of high profile brands. Aside from his deeds as a watch maker, Biver is amusingly known second best for his famous cheese making — a true Swiss, he does not disappoint.

Porsche Design P'6780 Diver Watch Is Hand-Me-Down Eterna Watch Releases

I am not totally sure of the nature of cooperation, but the watch is a combo of efforts from Artya and Guer Man (I wrote about their Trace watch here). The case is crafted in the Guer Man workshops. While Artya says the watch is a piece unique, this is not totally true. There will be more than one Coprolite watch, but because each dial is a unique piece of cut coprolite, then each dial will be unique. I tend to associate "piece unique" with watches that have only one watch planned, including minor variations. As such, the entire dial of the watch is coprolite with skeletonized twisted metal hands, and a long, double sided seconds hands (with a red tip where the indicator is).

URWERK Black Cobra Watch: Can Comics Sell Luxury Watches? Watch Releases

Unlike the two versions of the original HM3 (the Sidewinder and Starcruiser), which had straps attached to them in two orientations, The Frog has one orientation, that probably suits the design best. You can piece the movement through the top and bottom mounted sapphire crystals. You will also find a date display ring on the top of the watch as well. A small arrow on the case tells you were to read the date.

The campaign itself is the brainchild of the Leagas Delaney agency. Apparently a lot of research was conducted before the campaign was brought to fruition. Apparently enough people believe that Patek needed to be sexed up a bit. The above ad is really the jewel of their efforts in my opinion. The slogan itself needs a place in advertising history for impressive sounding statements that mean nothing at all. No doubt the campaign, including the other ads will resonate with consumers. Not in a seriously cerebral way, but it will serve its function with the female demographic. And now I can finally say... "you never actually own a Patek Philippe watch, you simply hold on to it until you can pass it along to the next generation after an awkward night of reminding them of how beautifully precious they are."

Alpina 12 Hours Of Sebring GMT Chrono Watch Watch Releases

The watch uses a sapphire coated mineral crystal that Invicta calls "flame fusion." This is like a middle ground between fully sapphire crystals and mineral ones. I don't know too much about living with them, but I at least wanted you to know what flame fusion was. Inside the watch is a Swiss Ronda 5040.D quartz chronograph movement. Really not much more I can say about that.

The Cvstos Challenge-R (get it, "challenger") 50 Chronograph watch is nice overall. Perhaps not their most inspired design, but has enough technical looking sportiness to not horrendously insult anyone who wears it. The 45mm wide titanium case has a nice mix of brushed and polished surfaces, and enough design elements that work in other watches are adopted here so that ti doesn't look too bad. Really the main problem with the watch is the price and the hands. Those tiny, tiny little hands. Why do they look so lilliputian?  Why would they do this to the poor dial? Though if you look at the bottom image of the watch on a bracelet, looks like the brand started to get the message about the hands as they look a bit larger. Or am I just seeing things?

It is an interesting framework for watch making in general. While new inventions and innovations are regularly announced from around the world, it is at its heart, a super retro industry. So for ultra developed America (relatively speaking) to finally come out with a complication it could have mastered a long time ago if it put effort in it is rather ironic. It speaks about our efficient and practical minds as Americans (before you go on a rant just think about it and how we have more or less rejected a lot of the "why do they do that" traditions of other countries"). This mentality often results in shunning fancy artisan work on a mass level like tourbillon movements that are more or less made solely for the sake of beauty, complexity, and tradition. A tradition that America has lost long ago, and is slowly regaining in certain communities.

JCB illustrates to me with his hands rooms that are to be filled with machinery and watch maker benches. He couldn’t be more excited about the expansion. Even today, there are workers in the building slowly making arrangements and preparing for everything to be installed. Don’t be confused though, Hublot is already a manufacture, it just doesn’t produce as much as it soon will. Hublot already makes and assembles many of its complex tourbillion watches in-house from scratch (just like mom used to make), and assembles, finishes, and tests their entire collection here. Hublot has the budget to buy some of the best machines, and it is exciting to see Hublot watches in various states of assembly. Despite the myth of the brand and its contemporary demeanor, Hublot timepieces share much with other high-end timepieces in how they are produced, finished, and assembled.

When you want to really impress guests, you use the included remote control to reveal the winding watches. The pair of Rotalis watch winders (total capacity for eight watches) come out of the desk. Another command allows you to active 16 LED lights that shine on the watches. Pretty cool stuff. Rotalis watch winders are made by Beluwo for Erwin Sattler I believe. They are powered by a wall socket so you can plug in the desk. They also have a USB connection so that you can program the winding if you like (for different watches) - but that is optional. Each of the two winding units has its own USB connection.
