SIHH 2016 Preview: IWC-Swiss Replica Big Pilot’s Watch Annual Calendar Edition “Le Petit Prince”

IWC-Swiss Replica New Rattrapante for SIHH 2015

The rotor is connected to these turbines via a set of brass wheels (again, visible on the image above), which have been geared in a way that they transform a relatively small movement of the rotor into a lot of action on the turbines. It really does work: the turbines do spin crazy fast, which in turn results in quite a bit of mechanical noise. But they are called turbines, not windmills, so I guess that is okay.

The trigger was my health issues during Baselworld 2014. I suddenly experienced heart rhythm failures, and that got me worried big time. It brought back memories of my father, who had his first heart attack at the age of 51 (I’m 56 now). It was a sign for me. I had been working for more than 16 years, almost day and night, 24/7, even on weekends and on holidays. Watchuseek is a 24/7 community and business.

For instance, in the picture above, you can see that I was at about 8 meters (26 feet) depth, whereas my max depth at the time was about 10 meters (or about 33 feet). What makes this feature interesting for divers is the ease of knowing what max depth you have achieved during a dive as you check for your dive time. This is important as one of the main factors of staying in the no-decompression limits for a dive are your maximum depth achieved and the amount of time spent at bottom as well as overall time in water and prior dives. With some calculation and remembering or checking the decompression tables, with the Citizen Promaster Aqualand Depth Meter you are able to accurately determine if you should perform decompression stops.

From the inside out IWC-Swiss Replica series of universal knowledge

Later, Daniel Quare did, however, lay claim to the invention of the striking mechanism in a watch. The chiming mechanism is believed to have been useful as it allowed the wearer to know the time in pitch black darkness – i.e. without having to light a candle, at a time when electricity (or Super-LumiNova) had not yet been invented. The task of fitting bells, wire gongs and the time-tracking striking mechanism within the confines of a watch was quite complicated, rendering the watch repeater an object of high luxury. Consequently, unlike, say, the tourbillon, chiming functions are still not available in the few-thousand Dollar segment – and likely never will be. Of course, nowadays, we have numerous gadgets to remind us of the time and plenty of artificial light to see by, and yet mechanical minute repeaters, especially those crafted by high-end watch companies, remain highly coveted items.

All of this is discussed because I find George's relationship with Rolex to be fascinating. While it might be easy to describe what Bamford Watch Department does as making toys for rather rich boys and girls, it is, in actuality, an interesting artistic exercise and effort of an artist who probably wouldn't be interested if his work came without a sense of struggle.

TechnoMarine Time Trends …

We thank Michael K. for his pictures and watch winner review after being the lucky recipient of the Minus-8 Layer watch our October 2014 watch giveaway.  Don't forget to enter this month for a chance to win a Maurice Lacroix Pontos S dive watch here.

Vulcain is also famed for their dials, and this one doesn’t disappoint: a rich navy whose subtle iridescence shifts in the light from a royal blue to an inky midnight, very legible against the white, perfectly proportioned antique-clock style hands. Vulcain is also famed for its guilloché work, and the Arabic numerals here are ringed in enamel: in the dark, when the lume kicks in, the enamel outline stays dark, which slenderizes the numbers, giving the dial a slightly different, more minimal look.

The strap proved more challenging than I anticipated. I needed a strap that was reversible also. This was not reinventing the wheel, as many belts are reversible. But finding a strap manufacturer willing to produce this “Frankenstein” design for the watch proved to be difficult. I not only needed the strap to be reversible, but the buckle needed to be reversible as well. My original strap manufacturer was finally able to make me a sample that I liked out of Italian leather – finished on both sides – but, it limited me to leather and not any exotic skins. I like alligator, crocodile, python, snake, lizard etc…and these straps cannot be worn against the skin on the arm. We finally solved this problem by utilizing straps with “quick release” spring bars. This allows the wearer to quickly and easily “reverse” the strap so that we can fit the Rpaige DuoFace watches with exotic strap skins.

Nevo Analog Smartwatch Marries Minimalist Looks With Activity Tracking And Notifications Watch Releases

The release of Audemars Piguet’s Royal Oak in a two-tone configuration is as forward looking as it is retro. While the big story at SIHH 2015 out of the AP camp is the acoustically exceptional RD1, it was a subtle makeover of the already impressive Royal Oak Reference 15400 that really snagged my attention. The 15400, a 41mm model in the Royal Oak line, has become the go-to for all lovers of classic Royal Oak design language who desire a model with a third (seconds) hand, replacing its predecessor, the 15300, in 2012. Unlike the 15300 – and really, unlike any Royal Oak since the 1990s, the latest variant of the 15400 is being offered in a two-tone design, formally unveiled today in Geneva.

The first Montblanc Timewalker that I loved came in a polished steel case with a tri-compax style chronograph layout and matching silver-colored dial. It was attached to a thick brown alligator strap and I just loved how metropolitan and somewhat Art Deco it was. Priced at around ,000, it was more than I could afford, but it was nevertheless on the list. I never actually got around to getting a Timewalker, but I still think about it. Perhaps I am waiting for a new model to come around and wow me more than the first - Montblanc does seem to offer a few new ones each year.

Hublot Now In The NFL With Dallas Cowboys Football Team Sponsorship Watch Releases

The Leatherman Tread Watch is attractive enough with a familiar military/pilot watch style that is both legible and decently attractive. The style is predictably conservative, given Leatherman's target audience - which is probably not people who wear watches on a regular basis. I find it interesting that Leatherman decided to go the full analog route (rather than have a digital dial) - which is another sign that they are trying to be style conscious.

Earlier this year, we brought you news of a fresh G-Shock release, which was Casio's – and in fact the world's – first wrist watch to incorporate a hybrid movement that would allow the watch to sync the exact time both through atomic clock radio signals and GPS satellites. Recently, Casio has announced three new models, all versions of the Casio OCW-G1000 models from the Casio Oceanus collection, which will receive the same novel hybrid movement that we saw make its debut in the G-Shock GPW-1000. This heavy-hitter combination of the more elegant Casio Oceanus line and the unique feature-set of the movement certainly is designed to be Casio's answer to Seiko's Astron Solar GPS watches (which we reviewed here).

The competition for "blockbuster lots" is getting fierce, and in some circumstances, auction houses are accused of unethical conduct in disclosing the provenance of a watch as related to its total authenticity or actual ownership. To that latter point, it should be stated that in many instances, celebrity ownership of a watch can vastly increase its value. There are other factors that I will discuss below, which I feel people interested in participating in watch auctions should know before fully committing to a major purchase or bidding at one of the major watch auction events around the world.

Hands-On With The Omega Speedmaster CK2998 Reference 311.

All of this is made possible by the self-winding calibre MB29.20. Earlier, I mentioned that the Montblanc Heritage Spirit Obris Terrarium has an in-house developed worldtime complication, and I say this because the base of the movement comes from Sellita, with the worldtime function being added using a module. The module, however, is developed completely by Montblanc, and from what we have heard, is not just a simple sandwich job. Rather, the complication is integrated into the movement, which could also explain why the Montblanc Heritage Spirit Orbis Terrarum is just 12mm and not thicker, as some of the other watches with modular complications are. The MB29.20 beats at 4Hz and has a power reserve of 42 hours.
