To be honest, the Royal Oak collection is no stranger to skeletonization. It has been done before, but Audemars Piguet doesn't do it the same way twice as far as I can tell. The first model is the Audemars Piguet Openworked Extra-Thin Royal Oak 40th Anniversary Limited Edition. They use the term "openworked" versus skeletonized - they mean the same thing. As far as I can tell these watches aren't any more thin than the standard Royal Oak watch - so I am assuming the "Extra Thin" part of the name is there for marketing purposes because thin watches are in right now.

It is hard to begin a review of a watch like this. There is just so much to say, and I don't know where to begin. So many elements of the watch and its history merit discussion - and I can't cover it all. I'll do my best, and am very excited to present to you a hands-on review of a very special watch.

The 1972 collection watches each have a 43.3mm wide steel case, with a rotating diver's bezel in either steel or black tone. The case designs are masculine and attractive with a distinct vintage twist. You'll find an assortment of strap options as well as a nice metal bracelet. The dials have a sapphire crystal and the cases are water resistant to 100 meters.

Each person with means and the items it purchases needs a safe place to store their loot. With the help of Brown Safe Manufacturing and the knowledge I have acquired over the years, I would like to explore the infrequently discussed topic of how to keep your valuables safe from damage and theft.

The case design is pretty cool for this watch. Like a curved rectangle, it is in ceramic and titanium being 48.5mm tall by 34.5mm wide. A notable feature is how the straps are attached. There is a sort of retainer tube (that you can see right through), on the side of the case that holds the strap in place. I think it is probably clear that only Rado will be able to change the strap for you. The angular look of the case is still nicely curved where it counts. There is a fine mixtures of angles and organic curves on the case.

Surprisingly this is not the first watch Jaeger-LeCoultre made for a Batman movie. A very similar limited edition Reverso watch was made several years ago when Batman Forever was released. The press release from Jaeger-LeCoultre isn't clear on how many pieces will be made or where they will be available. However, it does hint to the fact that they should be in Jaeger-LeCoultre brand boutiques in Los Angeles, London, Geneva, and Hong Kong.

In this first article I have chosen to start with Titanium. Titanium has recently become very popular in high-end watches, and it is not without reason. For me, titanium is the best overall engineering metal ever! Is it however the best material for a watch case? Let’s take a look...

There are many versions of the C60 Trident watch and this is just one of them. Each is pretty nice and I like that Christopher Ward takes a good thing and offers enough versions to suit most anyone's taste. Price for this C60 Trident Automatic Nato version is 0 (and you can get one here).

As with RGM's other high-end watches, you can usually assume it'll a) have their honest-abe engine-turned dial and b) not be cheap. Both are true here, and this piece is all about the dial as other brands have pieces with 7751 movements.

For the date, the Klepcys once again uses a spinning cubic hand. It has the numerals 0-3 on it, and operates to indicate the first digit of the date. It moves along a 0-9 scale to indicate the second digit of the date. Very simple but wonderfully executed. The moonphase is a beautiful little item that starts with a detailed golden moon orb. It has a hood that moves around it in order to indicate the phase of the moon. Detailing is wonderful, and I love how Mojon intentionally exposed some of the mechanics behind the movement. It is like a non-skeletonized dial that still celebrates the fact that it contains a mechanical movement.

Nixon, the California-based watch brand, wants a lucky winner to wear a Steelcat timepiece for the rest of the summer. The Steelcat is a large 48mm wide, steel cased watch available in three styles. Inside the watch is a Swiss quartz chronograph movement which also has the date. According to Nixon, the Steelcat is made for the "waterman's life." Funny since steel sinks and cats tend to dislike water. Though as a diver, it is water resistant to 300 meters so perhaps sinking is a good thing. It certainly has a fun surfing flair to it. Attached to the watch is a custom silicon strap. Price is 0 - 0 depending on the style. Winner gets their choice. Enter for a chance to win one below.

Let's look at the straps. Cross ensured that the leather straps (which have an alligator print) are fitted to the case. There is no gap from the case to the strap - just as is done in many higher-end brands. This is opposed to a strap with a straight end, and a resulting space gap between the strap and the case. Let me say it again, another nice detail to have with a price at this level.
