Sharing A Reader's Speedmaster Story

Now on to the screen and functions. There are four displays that you can choose to look at, and each in either the positive or negative color tone. What I mean by the latter is that by pressing the right pusher on the watch in any screen will juxtapose the colors. For instance if the numbers are dark, and the background is light, press the button and the numbers before light, and the background dark. The four screens show: 1) the time with stacked hours and minutes,  a calendar with stacked date and month, the alarm setting, and an alternative time display with a semi-analog hour on top of digital minutes. The watch also has an adjustable tone that will beep on each hour, but this can be turned off. The pushers are easy to use, but require a deep push into the case. A few downsides to e-ink are that there is no current backlight option, and there are no seconds indication available. Both are understandable given the nature of the screen, and are not merely left out of the design. e-Ink needs energy each time the screen "changes." If the watch were to count seconds, the screen would need to change each second, and thus use up too much energy. This way it only needs to change each minute. e-Ink does require a bit more voltage than a standard LCD display, but with the CR2025 battery, you should get 18-24 months of battery life. Plus, these types of batteries shouldn't be hard to find at non-watch stores as they are also used in non watch devices.

For those of you who have never been interested in a Swiss Mondaine watch, this Railway Sport Chrono II watch might change your mind. The best way to know the watch is by the reference number which is A690.30338.11SBM, but that is no fun to say. So I will stick with Sport Chrono II. Let's survey the features of this watch first and notice a correction below that I misstated in the review video.

The Moana Pacific Diver is in a 44mm wide brushed and polished steel case with a unidirectional rotating diver's bezel. The case is water resistant to an impressive 500 meters! Really good for a brand's first dive watch. Of course the watch has a screw down crown and thick double-domed sapphire crystal that is AR coated.

You may not know it, but aBlogtoRead.com is on a new web host now, but the work is far from over. I was up all last night working on this, and things still need "a fixin'." Until there will be some limited functionality and features on aBlogtoRead.com. Don't worry though, things are being smoothed out and improved over time. In the next several days it will all be better. Trust me, this is much harder on me, than it is on you!

My Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Forged Carbon Article On AskMen.com Watch Releases

The construction of the unit involves a shiny black case sitting on four legs. A mirror on top of which a raised circuit board is mounted, and the rest you can easily visually deduce. The Futura is very artistic in my mind. I wouldn't actually call it futuristic at all, but I suppose it is in comparison to some of the classic looking wood winder units. Instead it is a more "tech friendly" device, proud of its electronics. Thematically similar to a skeletonized watch, only here you have electronics and lights, as opposed to gears and springs. There are actually four blue LED lights on the board that are more or less decorative. they actually have various settings and can blink and different speeds. The point of the lights it to make the unit look more "spacey," and in that it succeeds. You'll feel like you are in a space ship with the Futura winder being on in a dark room. You can easily turn the lights off too. I had to do this as I keep my watches in my bedroom and the bright blue blinking lights made me feel like there was a police car in the room. Turning the lights off involved removing the power to the unit and restarting it to put it in settings mode. Not a big deal, but it did involve resetting the time. Still, I was very pleased that Orbita realized that it would be a feature people would want to have some control over - something I wishes the makers of my computer thought of as it seems to twirp and blink with various lights more often than R2-D2.

Quick reminder that today is the last day to get the pre-order price of 0 for the cool new Dievas Vortex hybrid dive/aviator watch. I wrote about the Vortex watch previously here. Really one of my favorite timepieces this year, and a great value for the price. Made in Germany, Swiss automatic movement, 44mm wide titanium case, and 500 meters of water resistance. Check out the link to the previous article for all the details. After tomorrow the price for the Dievas Vortex watch jumps to 0.

Magellan 1521 Watch Review Wrist Time Reviews

Sometimes you just want a good reptile skinned watch, but they can be so hard to find. Why? Well us Americans get kind of bent out of shape about it. Yes, I am all for Animal rights. Frankly I would put Animals above humans in many regards, but when it comes to animals that are raised, just to be killed for their "parts," sure it is cruel, but it is not really damaging to the environment. It would be different if you had guys going out into the jungle to kill pythons just for their skin. That would be bad, really bad. But when you farm the creatures for it? Well then if you are against that, then you are against eating chickens (cause they are raised just to be killed too).  I am now expecting a slew of angry e-mails and comments. Proceed please, I did put myself out there with the "I love sweet, sweet animal skins" commentary.

Going back to what the watch is meant to celebrate. Breitling says that for its (Breitling's) 125th anniversary, and they are making this watch to celebrate Scott Carpenter's 1962 mission aboard the Aurora 7 capsule where he first tested out a chronograph watch in space. It was basically an orbital flight around the Earth. I  believe he was wearing a Breitling at the time. OK, so that is cool, but what about the watch itself?

Jean-Claude Biver speaks like a proud father discussing his baby Hublot. He remarks on how the brand has acquired more space, and is only getting more in the future. Biver isn't on everyone's "I love this guy" list, but he is a really good  watch company head, and he gets how to run a European luxury watch company. If LVMH is smart, they just leave him to do what he wants to do. Oh, and in the video, is it just me or does Biver look and sound genuinely annoyed at the questions and/or the interviewer?

The Pro-Hunter Military Single Red DeepSea is different than the version without the term "Military Single" in it that it comes with military style NATO straps. The other version has a matching black steel bracelet. There are also some minor differences on the dial. The black applied material is DLC (diamond like carbon). You all know me for going ga-ga over this coating compound for its look and scratch resistance. Here it is done in a nice shiny manner. Pro-Hunter made just 100 of these watches.
